Who I Am
My name is Alfie Brooker, and I am a fourth-generation letter carver working in both stone and wood. Trained through a traditional apprenticeship with my father, I carry forward a family legacy of craftsmanship that spans letter carving, wood carving, and copperplate engraving. My work is rooted in the belief that every letter holds weight—not just in meaning, but in form—and that carving by hand allows for a level of care, nuance, and beauty that machines simply cannot replicate. Each stroke of the chisel is considered, each curve refined by eye, making every inscription not just functional, but truly artistic.
As an artist, my focus is on precision, proportion, and the quiet elegance of hand-drawn lettering. Whether I’m working on a commemorative stone, a house sign, or a bespoke inscription, my aim is to create work that feels timeless, thoughtful, and deeply personal. I treat each commission as a collaboration between material, message, and craft—shaping every piece with respect for its purpose and an unwavering attention to detail. In a world of fast production, I offer something slower and more meaningful: letters carved by hand, with honesty and heart
